Ground Granulated Blast-furnace Slag (GGBS) is a by-product of iron manufacturing and is commonly used as a cementitious material in concrete production to improve durability and sustainability.
GGBS reduces concrete’s carbon footprint by partially replacing clinker, the most carbon-intensive component in cement production. Clinker requires high-temperature processing, emitting large amounts of CO₂, while GGBS is a low-carbon by-product from steel manufacturing. By substituting 30-70% of cement with GGBS, emissions are significantly lowered. Additionally, GGBS improves concrete durability, reducing maintenance and extending the structure’s lifespan—further cutting long-term carbon impact.

How much Co2 can be saved using GGBS from China?
We are currently working with the University of Salford to create a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) for our GGBS product. This study will provide a comprehensive analysis of the environmental impact of using GGBS, including its carbon savings compared to traditional Portland cement.

Where do we get our products from?
Our partner is Hebei Ruihe Composite Materials Co., Ltd, a specialist in low-carbon building materials, supplying silica fume, GGBS (Ground Granulated Blast Furnace Slag), and Glass Fibre Reinforced Plastics (GFRP). With a reliable supply chain and strict quality control, its products are widely used in global infrastructure projects.
